Advanced Methods of Detection

Your physician may determine additional tests are necessary. The BreastCare Center offers a wide variety of diagnostic services in one convenient location.

Ultrasound
An ultrasound of the breast detects abnormalities by using high-frequency sound waves. Using advanced technology, it can be determined whether an area of breast tissue is cystic or solid. Sometimes abnormalities are found that are not seen on a mammogram.

Aspiration
Cyst aspirations are performed on questionable lumps or cysts. A thin needle is inserted into the lump or cyst and the fluid is drawn out causing the cyst to collapse. If no fluid is found, the tissue will need further analysis and a fine needle aspiration (FNA) may be needed.

Biopsies
Several types of biopsies can be performed at the BreastCare Center including core, steriotactic and needle localization. The biopsies are used to acquire samples of tissue for further analysis.
